Mackay Sugar Acknowledges WHS Proceedings and Reaffirms Its Commitment to Safety
Mackay Sugar has pleaded guilty in the Mackay Magistrates Court, to a workplace health and safety (WHS) incident that occurred in September 2021. The incident involved an employee who sustained injuries while undertaking routine water sampling. The matter was adjorned for sentencing until July.
“We deeply regret that a member of our workforce was injured while performing their duties in September of 2021. The safety, health, and wellbeing of our employees is our highest priority, and we are continually working to ensure that every individual goes home safe, every day” stated Adele Lorimer, General Manager of People and Culture.
Ms Lorimer said, “Since the incident, we have taken steps to improve our worklplace safety practices and intend to continue our commitment to investing in ongoing improvements and training, to ensure such an incident does not occur again.”
Mackay Sugar continues to work closely with regulatory authorities, industry partners, and workforce to ensure that their operations target attaining excellence in safety standards and legal obligations.
