Mackay Sugar Cyber Security Incident Update 4

Mackay Sugar continues to respond to a cyber security incident affecting some of our operations.

As soon as we became aware of the incident, we took immediate steps to secure our systems and engaged specialist cyber security experts to support the investigation. Our investigation has identified evidence of unauthorised access by an external party to parts of our IT environment. We have implemented a range of containment measures to reduce risk and strengthen the security of our environment while we continue our investigation.

Our monitoring has identified that an external party has made a claim about our company on a dark web site. It is important to note this site is not accessible via standard internet searches and requires specialist software and tools to locate. We are working urgently to verify these claims, including the nature and extent of any information which may have been accessed. We also have ongoing monitoring in place, with the support of our cyber security experts.

Based on information currently available, this development has not changed our operational recovery plans.

We continue to progress the restoration of our systems that support cane supply, harvesting and mill operations.

Steam trials are continuing and subject to final validation activities, some harvesting is expected to recommence this week in preparation for the staged restart of crushing operations later this week. We have taken the responsible course of action in advising growers and harvesters not to recommence harvesting until we advise them to do so. Our ongoing priority remains the safety of our people and protecting operational systems.

Our cyber security experts continue to work alongside our teams to investigate the incident and restore systems safely. We have also reported the incident to the appropriate authorities and we will continue to adhere to our regulatory obligations.

We are communicating directly and regularly with our employees, growers and key partners. We recognise the impact this incident is having on our growers, and we are doing everything we can to support them and to safely resume full operations as soon as possible.

We take our responsibility to protect our systems, operations and information very seriously. We apologise for any disruption this incident has caused and will continue to provide updates as we continue our investigation.
